Marty Zevin was born on January 21, 1949 in Newark, New Jersey. He graduated Weequahic High School in
Newark. He received a full academic scholarship to Rutgers University, earning a Bachelor of Arts Magna
Cum Laude with High Honors in English and was awarded membership in Phi Beta Kappa. He was offered
full academic scholarships to several Ivy league law schools. On his 21st birthday, digging his car out of a
snowstorm in New Jersey, he decided to accept a full scholarship offer from the University of Miami Law
School. He earned his J.D. degree in 1973, passed the difficult Florida Bar exam on his first try and became
a lawyer in October of 1973.
He began his career working for a divorce lawyer. But he discovered that no matter how good a job he did,
his clients were always unhappy. His responsibility also included handling all non-divorce cases, including
personal injury. When he negotiated his first settlement, resulting in his first happy client, he realized that
personal injury law was his future.
He began his own practice in 1976.
He has handled thousands of personal injury cases, developing his own negotiating techniques and strategy
which he shares in his book “How to Settle Your Own Personal Injury Case.”
Through the years, he has also represented thousands of clients in preparing their Wills and Trusts. As he
and his clients have aged, he finds himself handling more Estates and Probate.
He also regularly counsels clients on the importance of having legal documents in place to prepare for the
possibility of legal disability. These documents include Durable Power of Attorney, Designation of Health
Care Surrogate and Living Will.
